Greetings CMS members and followers:

Happy Summer!

I am excited to provide the following updates about our MakerSpace community:

Thanks to several CMS members, we are building a robust calendar of in-person courses in the various shops. Please go to the Events page of our website to see what is being offered. Revisit often as several new classes will be added each week. And, if you would like to share your passion and talents with others, please consider teaching a class or two. You can let us know of your interest by filling out our Class Proposal Form. A reminder that non-members can both attend and offer classes.

Last Friday, we hosted a program for 7th graders from Kearsage Middle School. One set of students made copper rings in the jewelry studio while a second group made cloth tote bags in the fiber arts studio. We are also hosting a sewing program for young women living in a group home in the area. We look forward to expanding community programs like these in the future.

Save the Date! The Downtown Claremont Block Party to celebrate the new Pleasant Street design will take place on Saturday, August 13th starting at 3pm. Claremont MakerSpace will host an Open House during the party. More details in our July e-newsletter.

We are grateful to the Mascoma Bank Foundation for a $10,000 grant that will help us purchase some new equipment to support entrepreneurs and start-up businesses as well as our members, in general. We will be adding a walk-in paint booth for our wood and metal workers, a third 3-D printer, and some new equipment in the jewelry studio.

Speaking of gratitude and new equipment, Hypertherm recently donated a Wazer to our MakerSpace. A Wazer is a waterjet cutter that can be used to cut designs into metal, glass, ceramic, plastic, rubber and more. A small team of CMS volunteers has been trained and is now honing their skills. We hope to begin offering classes on the Wazer in July.

Please help us spread the word about our three Financial Assistance programs, also offered through generous charitable support. Our Veterans Scholarship Program, funded by Red River Charitable Foundation, provides veterans, active service members, and their partners a 75% discount on a CMS membership. Our Student Discount Program, supported by a grant from the Couch Family Foundation, offers a 75% discount to high school students 15 years and older. And, thanks to a grant from the Oleonda Jameson Trust, our COVID-19 Economic Hardship Scholarship Program offers a 75% discount to people whose work-life has been disrupted by the pandemic. Information about these scholarship programs is available on the Financial Assistance page of our website.

We are grateful for all of the public support our 501-c-3, non-profit organization receives. If you’d like to make a donation, visit the Support Us page of our website.

Happy Makin’!

Steve
